KETV at Burlington Station

Lund-Ross recently completed the renovation of Burlington Station in downtown Omaha. Originally built in 1898, Hearst Television, Inc. purchased the historic train depot in 2013 to become a state-of-the-art broadcasting and web media facility for Omaha-based KETV Channel 7.

The structural challenges of the building required project Manager Chris Harnly and superintendent Lonnie Kates to work closely with architect Leo A. Daly. Existing columns were removed to create an open layout, and 14,000-pound steel beams were installed to support the building. The original mosaic floors were restored and elsewhere access flooring was installed to create pathways for the large amount of electrical, mechanical and communications systems that run throughout the facility. An audio room and greenroom were built on the ground floor as well as a news assignment desk, offices, photography rooms, and a news archive.

Lund-Ross constructed a reception area, conference rooms, and additional offices on the second floor. A bridge was erected from the depot's main entrance on the second floor to a new attached parking lot, and the building's gray brick and limestone exterior was tuck-pointed and cleaned.

KETV aired their first broadcast from the Burlington Station in November of 2015.
