Lund-Ross Constructors completed the historic renovation of the 45,450 square-foot Carnegie Library in Iowa. Major work was completed on the building’s massive limestone stairs at the front entrance; the stairs were disassembled, moved eight feet east, and re-assembled to allow access to the lower level via ramps on either side. The basement houses a museum, gift shop and administrative office section, all trimmed in ornate woodwork. The correction of the three-story structure’s dramatically sagging floors created a large challenge, as did Lund-Ross’s recreation of historic elements like the building’s grand staircase to match its original appearance. The Carnegie Library restoration was awarded an Excellence in Construction Award from Associated Builders and Contractors and was named the region’s Project of the Year.
